Heliconia pogonantha
A true giant of the wet tropics and one of the most rewarding heliconias you can grow. Heliconia pogonantha produces spectacular large pendulous flowers in rich red and gold that hang dramatically from tall, lush stems — an absolute show-stopper as a feature plant in any tropical garden.
One of its biggest drawcards is its extraordinarily long flowering season, producing blooms virtually year-round once established. That reliable, continuous flowering makes it a firm favourite with sunbirds, who visit the nectar-rich blooms daily — plant one and you’ll have these little jewels as regular garden visitors.
Perfectly suited to wet tropics conditions, pogonantha thrives in warmth, humidity and rich moist soil, growing vigorously into an impressive clump. Give it room to shine — this is a plant that commands attention.
A must-have for heliconia collectors, bird lovers, and anyone wanting genuine tropical drama in the garden.
