St Christopher’s Lily is one of those plants that earns its place in the tropical garden several times over. Crinum jagus is primarily a foliage plant — bold, strappy, deep green leaves that build into substantial clumps with impressive speed — and then two or three times a year it throws up tall stems of large, scented white flowers that stop you in your tracks and remind you why you planted it.
It’s a plant that thinks big. Individual clumps bulk up reliably and divide readily, which makes it one of the most useful and versatile plants in a large tropical garden. Mass it as a groundcover under palms and large canopy trees, use it to edge a driveway or garden path with something that has real presence, or let it colonise a difficult shaded slope where you need lush cover without ongoing maintenance. Once established it largely looks after itself, and the more room you give it the better it performs.
The flowering is the payoff for the rest of the year. Summer and autumn bring up the flower stems — each one carrying a cluster of large, elegant white blooms with a sweet fragrance that carries in the evening air. It’s a flashy performance from a plant that spends the rest of its time doing reliable, hardworking groundcover duty.
For larger plantings and landscaping projects, we sell Crinum jagus in bulk — see our Bulk Buy Specials for current pricing on multiple plants. It’s one of the best value mass-planting choices for tropical and subtropical gardens, delivering a lush, established look quickly without the cost of slower-growing alternatives.
