Brownea grandiceps, commonly known as Rose of Venezuela, is a slow-growing small tree with stout branches, well suited to tropical regions. Elongated, pinnate foliage emerges attractively speckled before maturing to a consistent deep green as it ages — genuinely good looking even before it flowers.
Flowers Worth Building a Garden Around
The real showstopper is the flowering display — spectacular, globular clusters packed with bright crimson to scarlet flowers, protruding stamens and all, dangling beneath the foliage. Each flower head can reach up to 20cm in diameter, a genuinely dramatic sight. They’re also highly attractive to birds, butterflies and other nectar-seeking wildlife, making this a beautiful feature and a real drawcard for local fauna at once.
Growing Conditions
- Light: partial sun to dappled shade
- Soil: fertile, consistently moist — work in plenty of organic matter before planting, and maintain a good layer of mulch, since Rose of Venezuela doesn’t like drying out and thrives in humid conditions
- Maintenance: trim the lower branches to create a good canopy, so the flowers hang at a height you can properly admire walking underneath
- Diseases: none of note — a genuinely trouble-free tree

Every plant is soaked in a tri-kelp solution before packing to reduce transit stress and give your plants the best start. We pack using recycled boxes. Your plants travel secure, hydrated, and wrapped in materials we feel good about.
Where We Ship
We ship to QLD, NSW, ACT and VIC via Australia Post eParcel with tracking on every order. Flat rate shipping applies — see checkout for rates to your state. We are unable to ship to WA, SA, TAS or NT at this time.
When We Ship
Orders are picked and packed weekly. During extreme heat, we may hold your order for a cooler shipping window to protect your plants in transit — if this happens, we'll let you know via email. We don't ship into known heatwave conditions.
When Your Plants Arrive
Open your box as soon as possible. Even a few hours in a hot letterbox or on a doorstep can stress tropical plants. Give them a good drink of water and a light foliar spray of kelp solution, place them in a shaded spot for a day or two gradually increasing light to recover from transit, then plant out or pot up into their permanent position.
