Borneo Red Beehive Ginger (Zingiber ottensii)
A Smaller, Richly Coloured Beehive
Also marketed as “Cocoa Delight,” Borneo Red is a smaller, genuinely attractive beehive ginger with deep chocolate-coloured flowers and brown stems — a rich, moody colour palette that stands apart from the more common yellow and apricot beehives.
The Last to Flower
Borneo Red is the latest of the beehive gingers to flower each season, making it a great way to extend your beehive display later into the year once the earlier-flowering varieties have finished.
A Great Filler Plant
Its smaller size makes Borneo Red an excellent filler plant, tucking neatly into gaps in a garden bed or adding rich colour contrast among taller plantings without overwhelming the space.

How We Pack
Every plant is soaked in a tri-kelp solution before packing to reduce transit stress and give your plants the best start. We pack using recycled boxes. Your plants travel secure, hydrated, and wrapped in materials we feel good about.
Where We Ship
We ship to QLD, NSW, ACT and VIC via Australia Post eParcel with tracking on every order. Flat rate shipping applies — see checkout for rates to your state. We are unable to ship to WA, SA, TAS or NT at this time.
When We Ship
Orders are picked and packed weekly. During extreme heat, we may hold your order for a cooler shipping window to protect your plants in transit — if this happens, we'll let you know via email. We don't ship into known heatwave conditions.
When Your Plants Arrive
Open your box as soon as possible. Even a few hours in a hot letterbox or on a doorstep can stress tropical plants. Give them a good drink of water and a light foliar spray of kelp solution, place them in a shaded spot for a day or two gradually increasing light to recover from transit, then plant out or pot up into their permanent position. Most plants bounce back quickly — new growth within a few weeks is normal. for more information https://elarishtropicalexotics.com.au/2026/07/25/what-to-do-when-your-mail-order-plants-arrive/
Not Happy?
If your plants arrive damaged or aren't what you expected, take a photo and email us within 48 hours of delivery. We'll sort it out. See our full Refund & Returns Policy for details.
